Star Safari Observatory

Star Safari Observatory is located in the heart of the Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve. It is one of the largest privately owned observatories in New Zealand with seven operational telescopes for night time use and two solar telescopes. The observatory is also used for public stargazing through Star Safari and for space science education programmes through SpacewardBound NZ.

The observatory also participates in scientific research through Fireballs Aotearoa and the meteor camera network. We also have a Muon Detector to monitor cosmic rays and a dark sky meter. The links below lead to the latest data from the three sensors.
